The keys to success are volunteers’ commitment, passion, cohesion, diversity, and strength. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a child gain the life skills and knowledge to help them become a productive and successful adult. The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina is always grateful to anyone who would like to volunteer their time. We welcome people who can help in all areas, including:
But, we can see you have questions!
What will I be doing? Coaching, participating in a planning committee for an event, soliciting donations, data entry, and changing the lives of students, one putt at a time! You will be able to work on your strengths and share those with The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina.
How much time do I donate? As little or as much as you want. We have programming four days a week during the school day, and two days a week after-school. We also have committees for planning events, soliciting donations, and various events.
But I have a month long vacation planned. After all I am retired. That is ok! As long as you keep us in the loop we will know that you are unavailable for these times.
Do I have to know how to play golf? No you do not! Just ask our Administrative Assistant, Pamela Boyd. Her daughters play, her husband plays, but her excuse is we keep her too busy for her to learn. However she does enjoy smacking an occasional ball on the driving range. She always rides around with a driver!
Do I have to have school aged kids to volunteer? No, not at all. In fact you do not have to have kids. You just have to be willing to donate your time in whatever capacity you feel comfortable in.
Can I do it in my retirement? We encourage it. Studies show that the interaction with kids keeps people young! While it does cause more grey hair for some of us, the smiles from the students when they grasp a concept is unbelievably rewarding!
What are the benefits received from coaching? We always joke you are paid in bathroom breaks, smiles, and thank yous. But there is so much more to being a coach. Coaches have a life time of experience available to all of the students. You know some of the pitfalls and challenges students will face and you know how to encourage them. Your knowledge is never ending!
Will it cost me anything? No, but, we encourage a donation of $25.00 to offset the cost of background checks, name tags, training, and golf shirts. We spend approximately $71.00 per volunteer within a week of filling out the Volunteer Application.
What is the process? 1. Fill out the volunteer application, 2. donate $25.00, 3. wait for a call from one of our staff for further information that we do not ask for on your application (or you can call us and provide the information), 4. receive your clearance, 5. specify the name you want on your name tag, 6. specify the size of shirt, 7. attend a training session, and 8. volunteer! It may seem like a lot but it is a matter of an hour or two of your time before you may volunteer. It ensures our participants and our volunteers are well taken care of.
The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina wants YOU!!
