The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina is the newest addition to the Carol S. Petrea Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 charity. The name of Eastern North Carolina was chosen as we plan in the future to expand our program from the ocean to HWY 95, south to Wilmington and north to Virginia border.
Having The First Tee program in the New Bern area was a dream of George Brooks and Jerry Briele. George Brooks was a Champions Tour caddie that caddied at The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in California. He was impressed at the maturity, character and skill of the young players from around the country at that tournament. Upon returning from the event, he contacted The First Tee Home Office to inquire how to get a chapter started in the New Bern area. At the same time Jerry Briele, a PGA professional at The Emerald Golf Course had noticed a decline in the number of youth coming to his golf course and witnessed, first hand, how playing the game of golf molded and opened so many doors for his own children, fueling his desire to share this with the youth of New Bern. He then contacted The First Tee Home Office and The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina was formed.
The First Tee of Eastern North Carolina (Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties) is based out of New Bern, NC and currently provides programs for youth age 7-18 throughout Eastern North Carolina. We are currently conduct programming in the elementary schools located in Craven and Pamlico counties. Additionally, we offer School Day and After-School programming in those same counties. We rely solely on the generosity of our community’s citizens and businesses to provide our valuable youth character education programs delivered through the game of golf. Please see our Donation Section to support the youth of Eastern North Carolina.
